She is originally from Michigan and currently resides in a 55 and over boating community in Fort Myers, Florida called Hidden Harbour. “I bought in 1999, but moved permanently in 2005. I love the weather, of course, and the water activities and views.”
When asked why she chose a career in real estate Cherie answers, “I have been in sales all of my life. Why not sell something I loved? Every home has its own character just like every individual. I love meeting new people and seeing homes whether it is buying or selling.”
Her real estate career began in 1997 while still in Michigan. She started with first-time home buyers and built her clientele from there. In 2005 she received her Florida broker’s license.
“I worked for one year with Ferrell Builders in Cape Coral learning the new build market. The market crash of 2006 forced a new learning experience upon me. It was a market full of people and homes that needed a new level of hope and help. I became a short sale specialist and guided homeowners into the best solution for them. Again in 2011 the market was starting to resurrect itself and has returned full circle into a sellers’ market. I have remained resilient in an ever changing market while others have come and gone.”
Being in the business for over 20 years and experiencing the crash and rise Cherie certainly is a reliable source whether you are buying or selling. For Cherie it is not about the money real estate produces, it is about the people.
“My real estate is my ministry. I have helped many members of my church, Mount Hermon Ministries, to save their home or sell it. I worked getting low income members to purchase a home through the City of Fort Myers down payment programs. Real estate is not about the money, it is about helping people.”
As a devoted member to her church she aides her husband who started a men’s homeless ministry and has sat on the board of directors of her Mount Hermon Ministries. On a weekly basis Cherie can be found visiting the sick and shut-ins at their home or nursing home facility.
Cherie’s family consists of her husband Dwayne, of 38+ years, their two children, Brandy and Dwayne II, their four wonderful grandchildren, Noah, Nyla, Peyton, and Camryn, and their granddog named Emmet. When Cherie is not busy with her church or busy helping her real estate clients, she can be found boating, swimming or sewing.
