German native Michael Kolb first visited Naples, FL while vacationing in 2001. In 2004 he purchased a vacation home there, and in 2006, he moved his family to Naples and became a full-time resident.
“If you don’t have to work, it always feels like vacation here. You have so many possibilities: the beaches, golf, great restaurants, cultural events, strolling around in so many nice shopping centers. And don’t forget the weather. If you come from an area where you have a gray sky for over half of the year the light here gives you so much more energy.”
Michael Kolb earned a degree in computer science and economics from The Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe, Germany (formerly Fachhochschule Karlsruhe). It is ranked one of the top among universities of its kind in Germany, particularly in mechanical and electrical engineering, IT and engineering with business studies programs. His early career years were spent as a consultant, then as a large-scale project manager for insurance companies.
After relocating to Southwest Florida, Michael once again considered consultant work, possibly with German-speaking clientele. Real Estate met both criteria. With the help of a good mentor, he began studying for his new career, joining Amerivest Realty in 2007. Perhaps it is no coincidence that Michael currently works as Naples project manager for two European developers.
“I helped one to build the Manors of St. Thomas, a town home project on 2nd Avenue S. in Olde Naples. For the other, we are building a single family spec home in Vanderbilt Beach, and we just started a project for twenty-five single family homes near Olde Naples at Airport Pulling Road that will be built, hopefully, next year.”
“I like to see people happy after buying a home here in Naples. It also gives me the possibility to work so many different angles: selling homes, helping people to build their own homes, and helping developers to start communities, build homes and sell them.”
Michael shares his home with spouse Christiane Conell and two sons – when they are not away at school. Frederick, 20, is an economics and government student at the University of Florida/Gainesville; Pascal, 19, attends FSU/Tallahassee, majoring in economics and finance.
Christiane is the proud owner of All About April, a prestigious children’s boutique at The Village on Venetian Bay of Naples. Her shop was recently honored with the 2013 SWFL Readers Choice Award for Children’s Clothing Stores.
Aside from his work, Michael spends time honing his golf game, something which, by his own admission, he would not brag about. “I like to play golf but I am a terrible golfer!”
Travel is another favorite pastime. “When we lived in Europe, we visited a lot of interesting places over there (Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain and Ireland). Since we moved here, we started to explore the United States (Savannah and Charleston, New Orleans, Denver and the Rocky Mountain National Park, New York, Seattle and Vancouver). There is so much more to see in the U.S. that we don’t know where to start!”
